Initiatives

Over the years, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador have relied on the liquor authority of the day to ensure that alcoholic beverages are sold in a responsible manner. When the Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation was established in 1973, this responsibility was taken very seriously and has since been expanded to include many diverse activities and programs.

25 Second Ad Challenge

Congratulations to students & staff of Ecole des Grands-Vents, St. John’s and Lester Pearson Memorial High, Wesleyville, Winners of the Radio and Television 25 Second Ad Challenge.

Winning ads have been professionally produced and were aired on NTV and OZ FM. Each winning school has also been provided with a new computer system from NLC.

Accidents are events that we can not prevent and which usually have unfortunate outcomes. RCMP Assistant Commissioner Gerry Lynch says that his colleagues do not refer to tragedies caused by drinking and driving as accidents because they can always be prevented. Students at Ecole Des Grands-Vents and Lester Pearson Memorial High demonstrate this same understanding.

In the 25 Second Radio and Television Advertisements is a call to action for Newfoundlanders of all ages…..”Life is not a remote. You cannot fast foreward or rewind. You have to know how to insist.” These young individuals have demonstrated the wisdom that to fully enjoy life we must live in the moment, take responsibility for our actions and speak up to protect ourselves as well as those around us. Standing up to peer pressure and difficult situations requires using your strength, sense and smarts to be in control.

Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) thank you for your well thought message and are very proud to play a part in relaying it to the public of Newfoundland and Labrador.
